Huron Daily Tribune reports that the Tuscola County Register of Deeds Office launched a new property record notification alert system aimed at safeguarding residents against real property fraud. In partnership with GovOS, the County is providing the service free of charge to all residents. Real property fraud, a rapidly growing crime similar in severity to identity theft, involves the unauthorized recording of documents against a property for financial gain or illegal ownership transfer.

Marianne Brandt, the Tuscola County Registrar of Deeds, emphasized that the alert system adds an essential layer of protection for the community. By creating a profile on the Register of Deeds website, residents can receive email notifications whenever a document related to their name is recorded. This proactive measure allows residents to monitor their property records closely so they can respond quickly to any suspicious activity.
