The Nantucket Current has reported that Nantucket is preparing to roll out the GovOS Short-Term Rental (STR) solution aimed at cataloging properties on the island that are rented out for more than 14 days but less than 30 consecutive days per year. In November 2023, Nantucket partnered with GovOS to establish an STR registry, following the failure of a previous vendor to produce or deliver a functioning STR registry over a ten-month period.

Under GovOS’ management, rapid progress has been made toward establishing a new website and starting beta testing. The STR registry will align with state-established STR regulations from 2019, which identified over 2,000 rentals in Nantucket. The town plans to focus on education and outreach throughout 2024, enforcing registration compliance starting November 1, 2024.

The registration system will enforce several regulations, including annual renewal, a $250 fee per unit, emergency response requirements, liability insurance, occupancy limits, and parking management, to better manage and understand the short-term rental landscape in Nantucket.
